Chevy Cruze Windshield Wiper Problems With Solutions

General Motors has blessed us with many iconic vehicles over the years. Chevrolet Cruze is one of the company’s biggest success stories. Chevy Cruze, as it’s more affectionately known, is a sweet set of wheels that can last an eternity and offer an exquisite driving experience.

That said, the Chevy Cruze windshield wiper problems are pretty common. Sometimes the car’s internal components are to blame, and the guilty party is solely the wipers in the rest of the cases. Here are the most common wiper troubles you might come up against as a Chevy Cruze owner.

Chevy Cruze Windshield Wiper Problems & How To Fix?

The Wipers Are Not Responding To Command

I had a few clients who came in with their Chevrolet Cruzes, complaining that their wipers had gone berserk! They take forever to respond, and sometimes the wipers would do the exact opposite of what they are supposed to do. Sometimes they would not go back to their resting positions after switching off.

Solution

Since the wipers were not completely dead, the windshield wiper switch became my suspect number one. Whenever you have control issues with your wipers, you should examine the wiper switch first. My hunch turned out to be real when I found the wiper switches were faulty. Replacing the wiper switch restored full wiper functionality.

The Wipers Are Not Working At All

The wipers could stop working altogether. This is the most common windshield wiper complaint that all vehicle owners make. There are a number of possibilities here. Let’s go over every one of them.

Solution

The Wiper Switch/Motor

The windshield motor and the windshield wiper switch are the likeliest sources of this problem. If the switch is faulty, the instruction will not reach the wiper motor, and the wiping mechanism will not start. If the wiper motor is damaged, it will not be able to power the wipers.

So, which one should I look at first? The symptoms of a compromised wiper switch and a motor could be vastly similar. Here’s an easy way to differentiate between them. Check whether the turn signals are working or not. If they are not working, the wiper switch should be malfunctioning. In that case, replace the wiper switch.

If the turn signals turn out to be working fine, shift your focus to the wiper motor.  Disconnect the connector that runs from the wiper switch to the motor. Test its terminals with a test light when the wiper switch is on. If the light turns on, the connector is okay; the issue is with your motor. In the opposite case, the connector is at fault. Replace the faulty connector or the motor, and the wipers should regain operability.

Worn Out Wiper Blades/Arm

If the wipers are in bad shape, it’s a simple fix. Replace the blades, and the wipers should resume regular operation. Even if they don’t, because there are other underlying issues, you would need to replace worn-out wiper blades or wiper arms sooner or later.

Blown Out Fuse

Replacing a wiper motor can be costly. But sometimes the motor stops working because of a blown fuse. So, check the fuse before considering a motor replacement. If you are lucky, replacing the fuse would be enough.

Intermittent Wiper Operation

Sometimes the wipers would get activated and lose connection all of a sudden. The wipers would turn on and off on their own.

Solution

Bad wiring or a faulty wiper motor might be responsible in this case. Check the wiring and redo it if necessary. If the wiring is fine, check the motor. If the motor is malfunctioning, you must get a new one.

How To Fix Chevy Cruze Windshield Wipers?

To fix Chevy Cruze windshield wipers, you must diagnose the problem’s cause. Sometimes the wipers malfunction because they are damaged, but that’s not always the case. The wipers could be perfectly fine themselves but still malfunction because of a wiper motor/switch issue or other problems. You must address the underlying cause to fix the wipers.

Why Do My Wipers Stop Randomly?

There are several potential causes for wipers stopping randomly, including:

A problem with the wiper motor: If the motor is malfunctioning, it may cause the wipers to stop working.

A blown fuse: If the fuse that powers the wipers has blown, the wipers will not work.

Worn wiper blades: If the wiper blades are worn or damaged, they may not make proper contact with the windshield, causing the wipers to stop.

A problem with the wiper control module: If the module that controls the wipers is malfunctioning, it can cause the wipers to stop working.

A problem with the wiper switch: If the switch that controls the wipers is faulty, it can cause the wipers to stop working.

It would be best to have a qualified technician check your vehicle, as the cause may vary with the make and model of your car.

Final Opinion

Your Chevy Cruze windshield wiper problems will not magically go away on their own if you don’t attempt to fix them. Sometimes the solution is quite simple, but things could get a bit complicated if you are not that lucky. However, if you act in time, you can avoid significant repairing effort and cost.
